The Things Successful People Do…And Why They Work! – Part 1

Back Up Plan?
Back Up Plan?

The road to success is always filled with learning. You have to learn from those who have been there, you need to hear their stories, how they did it, why they failed in the areas that they did, what made them stick to the dream that ultimately became a reality and their advices. All of these put together gives you a good spring board from which to launch.

This is the focus of this series – The Things Successful People Do and Why They Work.

  1. Plan – Don’t Have A Back Up Plan!

You may not agree with this just yet but that is ok. Let me ask you, whenever you enter a vehicle or you are driving, why do you ensure that you do not get involved in an accident? Because death could possibly result and you know there is no second chance so you make sure that NOTHING can go wrong. What if we apply the same mindset to our Dreams or Business? Most times in the pursuit of our dreams and goals, we draw up back up plans and instead of focusing all our energies on “THE PLAN”, we keep our eyes on a safety plan.

It is similar to the comfort zone syndrome, because we still find comfort in our current state or the believe that the backup plan would sustain us, we water down our drive and dedication at pursuing that dream but if there are no backup plan, I am quite sure you will put in all you got to ensure that nothing can go wrong.

Without a backup plan, you’ll work much harder to ensure your primary plan works, and you would be sure to get it.

Ask yourself this “Do I have what it takes to be remarkably successful?”

Be totally committed to your dream and don’t rely on a safety net.

To be continued…

Have a great day ahead.

The Things That Happen To You!

28/09/2014 ~ SuccessJourney Daily Post with Nicholas Akomire ©2014

Things That Happen To You
Things That Happen To You

Life as we have come to realize is filled with a lot of unexpected happenings, sometimes good, sometimes bad and sometimes terrible things happen even to good people and when these things happen we are almost tempted to ask God why?

I once had the priviledge to hear a teenager tell me his life story and I was shocked at how humans can be so wicked to each other. This young man who is the eldest of 3 lost his mother quite early in life and was left with the father who could barely provide their needs but had his own house in the village where he lived with the three children.

Not so many months after this boy got out of secondary school, they lost the dad to sickness and this boy was saddled with the responsibility of fending for himself and the two siblings. While he was still trying to get his head around this unhappy life, the eldest member of the father’s family sold the father’s house and threw them out into the street to go look for somewhere to stay because he believes he now owns the property.

I listened with great pain as this young man narrated how life has turned his dreams upside down. Where would he go? How can he make something good out of life? How can he still ever amount to something great in life? These were the questions that ran through my mind while he shared his tale.

Maya Angelou said “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them”.

Our stories are quite different and so are our challenges but our stories would be told only by the way we decide to respond to the happenings of life. Do we decide to sit still and wet our pillows with tears? Or do we get up and work hard to have a better story or do we leave it all to faith and just hope that maybe, just maybe things would change for the good? These are the choices we are faced with.

I have learnt to become a sticker for the adage that says “Good things come to those who wait, but better things come to those who go out and get them”.

Whatever you decide to do, do not allow the things that happen to you reduce the man you were born to be…chase your dreams while you still can.

I honour you.

Life Is A Gift!

21/09/2014 ~ SuccessJourney Daily Post with Nicholas Akomire ©2014
One of the things I have come to realize is that life does not always follow the path we had expected, there are series of turns and curves down the road and that is why we must strive to understand life the way God does for He created everything. Take this advice:
Today before you think of saying an unkind word – think of someone who can’t speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food –
think of someone who has nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband or wife –
think of someone who is crying out to God for a companion.
Today before you complain about life –
think of someone who went too early to heaven or hell.
Before you complain about your children –
think of someone who desires children but they’re barren.
Before you argue about your dirty house, someone didn’t clean or sweep –
think of the people who are living in the streets.
Before whining about the distance you drive –
think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.
Before you complain about having to use public transport, think of those who are not free to move as you do.
And when you are tired and complain about your job –
think of the unemployed, the disabled and those who wished they had your job.
But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another –
remember that not one of us are without sin and we all answer to one maker.
And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down –
put a smile on your face and thank God you’re alive and still around.
Life is a gift – Appreciate God for It, Live it, Enjoy it, Celebrate it, and Fulfil it.
God is the only one who’s worthy of everything we can give.
Happy Sunday.

Strong Enough, Wise Enough, Bold Enough!!!

17/09/2014 ~ SuccessJourney Daily Post with Nicholas Akomire ©2014

Strong Enough
Strong Enough

Many of the things you desire in life never come as a complete package, they come in bits and pieces. Sometimes you get just the right quantity, sometimes a bit less and at other times, a bit more. And one begins to wonder; “why is it that I can’t have all that I need especially when I need it most?” Let’s take a look at the creation story.

God made man and gave him the ability to be in charge of every other creature of His but still there was the need for support. Though man had all the abilities within him, yet he could not just do it all by himself and God seeing this created a help mate – the woman.

One thing you must have learnt or realised by now is that at the different stages in your journey through life, you need one form of support or the other. At birth through childhood, you needed your parents to cater for you and provide you with the basic things of life. When you were ready to learn, you needed tutors to help you understand the complex world and to guide you at choosing a career path. This does not mean you were weak or incapable but it only meant that you need people to survive, that is how you were created.

In the pursuit of success in any aspect of your life – career, business, family, projects or group, you should pay attention to this. Either directly or indirectly, you need just the right persons at different times along the way and your ability to realize this and seek the right support would get you to where you want to be.  All it requires at times is asking for that support and if you ask the right persons, you will be sure to get it. If you don’t get it what it means is that you asked the wrong person at that time. Don’t be afraid to seek the right support, it means you are wise enough. You can never predict what you will get until you ask.

In all, be strong enough to stand on your own, wise enough to know when you need support and bold enough to ask for it. You will be sure to get there.

See you at the top.

I value you.

If I Could Be Anywhere Now, It Would Be Seychelles!

Seychelles-flag
Seychelles Flag

Have you ever thought of that one place where you would love to just pack your bags and run to if you had the means and time? Well for me Seychelles would be just the perfect place to go.

Why Seychelles you ask?  The Republic of Seychelles as it is officially called comprises of 115 Islands in the Indian Ocean – imagine waking from your bed to a wonderful view of the ocean. Seychelles is a beautiful destination that extends from between 4 to 10 degrees south of the equator and which lies between 480km and 1,600km from the east coast of Africa, my home.

Seychelles Map

Seychelles gained independence in 1976 and since then has expanded roughly seven times due largely to the tourist sector which employs about 30% of the labour force and provides more than 70% hard currency earnings and by tuna fishing.

The Islands of Seychelles cluster around the main island of Mahe, where you have an international airport and the capital city, Victoria. So you will not have to swim there…hehehe…just kidding.  And there is also a major seaport in Victoria.

Seychelles can be described as a living museum of natural history and a sanctuary for one of the rarest species of flora and fauna as described by a travel agency. Nowhere else on earth will you find unique endemic specimens such as the fabulous Coco-de-mer – the largest seed in the world, the jelly fish tree – with only eighth surviving examples, the Seychelles’ paradise flycatcher and Seychelles warbler. 450px-Female_coco_de_mer_growth The Islands of Seychelles are home to about 75 endemic plant species, with a further 25 or so species in the Aldabra group.air_seychelles

The republic of Seychelles boasts of a mixed ethnic group of French, African, Indian, Chinese and Arabians. With its official language being Seychellois Creole. Other languages spoken is English (5.1%), French (0.75%) and others. This means that whatever language you speak, you will not have a communication barrier.seychelles map MAIN

The Seychelles market boasts of an array of great home made products such as Jewelleries, mirror paintings, textiles, pottery etc.  You will be sure to find something interesting and unique.Kempinski-Seychelles-Resort-on-8-1024x576

Seychelles has an array of great hotels and spas with exquisite hotel services and amenities – swimming pools, lovely rooms, beaches, tours, tasty meals etc.. Some of the great hotels and spa you will find in Seychelles are: Kempinski Seychelles Resort, La Reserve Hotel, Chateau St Cloud, Savoy Resort & Spa,  Le Meridien Fisherman’s Cove, and Sunset Beach Hotel etc. The list goes on and on. But one thing all of these hotels have in common is the great view of the ocean and the blue waters, you will be sure to like it.

So when you are thinking of your next vacation, and dreaming of stunning beaches, blue waters, great views from your room and exquisite meals, think of Seychelles…hmm…it’s indeed a wonderful destination.turtle-diving-seychelles

We Are Back!

16/09/2014 ~ SuccessJourney Daily Post with Nicholas Akomire ©2014
Hello there! How are you doing? Did you say it’s been a while? Are you kidding me? It’s been ages and SuccessJourney Daily post has been on break. Hmm… I am quite sure you missed the Daily Posts. Believe me, Daily Post missed you too.
It was quite interesting to get feedbacks from so many readers trying to find out why the break and if I was doing fine. Am honoured to have such a wonderful  person as you who would so much as care about my well being. Thanks a Zillion.
The break started with me going for a camp meeting which on its own was such a wonderful experience that for so many months and years to come, I will still be reaping the benefits of it. God be praised. And yes, I prayed for you. At the end of camp while preparing to resume daily post, my phone packed up. The little piece of device wont just come up…anyways that is history. The good news is that we are back.
During the period of the break, I had the time to reflect on so many things, had interactions with different folks on different issues, took time to study some trends, got feedbacks from speaking, listened to different articles and stories and read quite a bit on different subjects.  All of these and many more we would learn from and review as we progress on SuccessJourney Daily Posts.
It’s good to be back and it’s quite great to have you here with me. Thanks once again.
Always remember: success is a journey…and it’s great to have people who would always support you down the road.
Have a wonderful day.

Persistence

26/08/2014 ~ SuccessJourney Daily Post with Nicholas Akomire©2014

persistence
Persistence

An unknown poet wrote:

‘When things go wrong as they sometimes will, and the road you’re trudging seems all uphill. When funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile but you have to sigh.

When things are pressing you down a bit, rest if you must, but don’t you quit! Life is strange with its twists and turns, as every one of us sometimes learns. And many a failure turns about, when he might have won if he’d stuck it out.
Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow-you might succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than it seems, to a faint and faltering man.

Often the struggler has given up, when he might have captured the victor’s cup. And he learned too late, when the night slipped down, how close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out-the silver tint of the clouds of doubt.

You never can tell how close you are, it may be near when it seems afar.

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit- it’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.’

For by persistence the snail reached the ark!

Have a lovely Tuesday.

I honour you.
